Don't go here to get your car fixed by Pat on December 20th, 2008
I USED to like going to this auto repair shop. The owner is ***** ***. I thought he was honest. Let me give a couple of examples: (1) a while back *** knew I was looking to get a truck for work I needed done at my home. He told me he knew of a woman selling her '91 4Runner. I liked Toyota's so I said I was interested. He said he changed the engine from the original to one from 1997. Not being mechanically inclined, I believed him. He said he would give me the receipts for the new engine. I never got them. My wife and I found out later from the pink slip that the previous owner was his wife. Now that I'm trying to sell the truck I've learned that the 1997 4Runner did not have the 3.0 FI engine that the truck valve cover shows on it. So, I believe he lied about changing the engine. Plus, not that long ago I asked him to do a full fluid service on the truck. Engine oil/filter, transmission oil/filter and rear end. I'm still experiencing shifting trouble on the trans. (2) we had been taking my son's car to *** too. It's a '93 BMW 325. A few years back my son blew his engine and *** says he could get a replacement engine. Believing him, we left the repair in his hands because he said he could have it done for only a couple of thousand. We spent several thousands of dollars to get the work done. It ran well but it took a very long time to do and he reused many of the old parts, some of which should've been replaced with the "newer" engine. A couple of months ago my son had a problem with his clutch not returning to "ready" position (my definition). We limped his BMW to his shop. It sat in his parking lot for two weeks doing nothing and when asked about it he said it was a clutch spring which he said he ordered. Another friend of mine said that it could not be the spring because when we force the clutch pedal back to "ready" position by lifting the pedal with our toe it comes back with no problem. My friend said (on the phone) that it's a clutch cylinder problem. We limped my son's car back to my house where my friend, me and my son replaced the clutch master and slave cylinder ourselves in my driveway. Now, back to the engine... a month or so ago we had a big rain. The rain water leaked in the compartment housing the DME or main computer. Through a lot of research we found another DME in a junkyard. But in all that research we also found that the engine *** said he replaced in my son's car COULD NOT have happened. First, the year that *** said he replaced it with did not exist in that year. Second, after futher inspection of the engine by his new friends of a BMW club (the vice president owns his own certified BMW repair shop) it looks like the original engine but only the head gasket was replaced. SEVERAL THOUSANDS of dollars for a head gasket replacement!!! I can't prove anything because, again, *** did not produce any receipts even after I asked him to. Here's one thing I know: his son is now attending Cal Berkeley and all of this occured just before and at the beginning of his attendance there. So, am/was I funding his tuition? My friend the mechanic says the auto shops along that stretch on Valley Blvd. are known to be dishonest. He knows of *** but won't say anything about him, I think because my friend is honest and won't talk bad about people. I'm going to go visit him to ask him for any/all receipts. I already know what he's going to say. If, however, he produces anything that challenges anything I've written then I'll be right back online. If he doesn't though then I'll start my complaint with the BBB. Watch out for this guy!!!
