overcharged

Price to replace the starter on my car: $472.57
This seemed a little higher than expected so I called two other shops and the two quotes were $212.81 and $245.25. When I called the owner of Springdale Automotive he said they use a "better part (starter)" with a better warranty. Well, yes, but a little research showed that the warranty comes from the manufacturer --not the shop -- and the actual over-the-counter additional cost of the "better part" is $22.45!
Now if I add the additional cost of $22.45 to the higher of the two other quotes ($245.25) the cost should have been in the range of $267.70 -- not the $472.57 actually charged by Springdale Automotive
When I complained the owner reduced the cost by $109.22 leaving me with an actual charge of $363.35 -- still 135% of the higher of the two other quotes.
I went to Springdale Automotive because they were convenient to my home -- not a wise decision.
Stay away from these guys at all three of their locations

Great Service

I've been using the Gates Automotive Service for about 18 years. They have well trained and reliable technicians and in dozens and dozens of service visits (not counting oil changes) I have only twice had any problem (rather minor) which when brought to their attention was remedied immediately. I have seen them fix things other shops said could only be replaced. Call ahead though-- they are usually too busy to just drop in.

A Good Local Business!

I have been a customer at Select for almost 10 years. I have bought 5 vehicles from them for myself and my family and have always had great experiences. Some of the faces in the Service Department have changed over the years, but Mr. Bevington now has a member of his own family in charge of every department at the dealership. His two sons run the selling of cars and his daughter Rachelle runs the service department. They have all been very friendly and helpful every time I have had dealings with them. After 10 years, they're almost like family to me. Getting your car serviced can be like having teeth pulled if you don't go to the right place, so take it from me and go see the Bevingtons. If you ever have a problem with anything just tell them and they will make sure to make things right.

I went in to get my oil changed and tires rotated and they got grease all over my carpets. It was a mess to try to clean up and I can still see the mark it left.

Avoid costly auto repair costs by comparing repair quotes with several auto body shops in your area. Some auto repair centers specialize in specific types of service such as glass repair, A/C repair, and car stereo repair. Other types of common auto repairs are windows, brakes, clutch, exhaust, heater, muffler and radiator repairs.
